My husband and I are new to chickens. We won’t have our chicks for a week or so. We are hoping to get Easter Eggers. We think the breed sounds fun and we like the idea that our chicks could have individual features.

My usual hobbies are reading, spending time with family and pets, watching tv and relaxing.

I heard about this forum on multiple YouTube channels and knew I had to join.

Welcome! EEs are a great breed choice and I think you will love them. Best of luck with your upcoming flock.

Hi Lily, it's nice to have you here with us! Enjoy those upcoming chicks. Do you have their coop ready (they grow so quickly)?
Hello! We have a nice shed that has been gently used that we are going to convert to a shelter for the chickens. My husband has a lot of experience in carpentry so we will be making a roost area, nesting boxes, possibly put one or two windows in, definitely going to make sure there is cross ventilation and we just bought an automated door for them. We have a dog kennel that is fairly large that we are going to convert to a chicken run (we are going to make that larger as well). We plan on reinforcing the bottom to keep predators out and will be putting a roof on to keep them sheltered from the sun, hawks, and of course rain. We are going to have all of that in a newly fenced in area that we made for our dogs. Don’t be alarmed it is a HUGE area and we are securing a large area just for our chickens. That larger area will be more like a semi-free range area for when we are home so they can explore. That area will also be reinforced for protection against everything including our dogs (who we are hoping will acclimate well to our new friends). We are kicking around the idea of one of those special electric fences some people use to keep chickens safe. What are your thoughts on that?
