Looking for help and urgent advice
I have a red, 1.5 year old chicken who is showing egg bound symptoms. Lethargic, won’t move, won’t eat, remains in swatting position. She’s recently stopped laying eggs after a fox got to our flock a few weeks ago, and hasn’t been laying. Now, after seeing her with these symptoms, When I examine her vent she does seem to be struggling to lay an egg. I see from the sides of her vent that there’s an egg just from the shape of her abdomen/vent/back end (which looks normal, I.e no prolapse) I put her in a bath two times, where she was very relaxed and now after taking her out and putting her in a comfortable darker place, she’s not moving and sometimes drifting in and out of sleep. Not sure if I should take her to a vet. Advice please!!!

If a vet with chicken experience is possible that is best. Cannyou give her a calcium tablet or Tums orally. Cut the tablet in two and give it straight orally. If she will eat egg or food, sometimes it can be mixed in, but she needs to takenit now. That would help her muscles to pass the egg. You may want to also lubricate a finger (gloved if you have one,) and try to get the egg out without breaking it. Instead of repeated baths you can moisten a thick towel and place her on a heating pad on LOW on top of the towel.

When the comb isn't red or its normal color it usually means that she isn't getting a lot of oxygen or is sick. . I would also definitly do what @Eggcessive's advice was too.the warmth of the towel or water should help if it is swollen or red if you can tell, it would be best though if you put her in a warm Epsom salt bath. message her abdomen. make sure she is as comfortable as possible! that is important!
