My husband and I have been raising ducks for the past few years. We’re down to an all male flock, they were being too aggressive with one or two females only, so we decided to rehome the 4 females and 1 male (Jack & the Uh-Uh’s, lol). We’re down to 3 drakes: Khaki Campbell- “Chocolate,” and 2 are mixed look like Rouen’s, from a Cayuga and Pekin, “Frankie & Johnny,” named after a popular restaurant here in New Orleans.
Last Spring & Summer, Frankie would run up to me and bite at my ankles. Chocolate has always been the alpha duck, from what we’ve witnessed; he’s also a year older and been with a female duck. Frankie & Johnny, have NEVER been around a female duck before. They were incubated and hatched very late. They imprinted on me and it was never a problem. This year, both are
VERY aggressive but only towards me. Whenever they see me approaching the backdoor, they’ll fly into the door, chase me in the yard or house, biting at my ankles and legs, even drawing blood a few times. Last year, once Fall rolled around, my flock was just fine with me, none were overly aggressive, they would run up to me playfully.
I don’t know how to break them of this behavior. The only thing they seem to be scared of are umbrellas, whenever they’re out of their house, I have to carry an umbrella with me, or be sitting on the bench, soon as I stand they rush towards me. Any advice is appreciated!

Thank you,
Bridget

Thank you, but I was hoping for a different solution, as we would need to get close to 12 females to appease them and I don’t want to add to this flock. These are out pets and not something we do for any other reason. Still hoping for other options.

Morning. I have 6 ducks and 1 drake, and a pair of geese. My male goose has been hissing, chasing and biting me the last 2 months and I have decided to accept it. It is "that time of year" and he will calm down in good due time. Do I have war wounds? Yes...but I love him and now understand their cycles.

The drakes should calm down but them having some ladies around would help the situation.

Just my uneducated opinion...I hatched my babies out last spring and still learning. Some lessons are learned by experience and not necessarily online. JMO

Good Luck!
Renee
