I guess spring is really on the way here. I have 3 roosters and 35 hens. Should be OK right? Well the 2 young roos decided to overthrow the King, King George that is. He is my older Buff Orfington Roo and very nice. The EE roo is covered in blood but it doesn't seem to be his. The BR doesnt seem to have any blood or wounds, but seems to be the one left in charge!

I just wanted to know if there is anything else I can do for George. I thought I would have to cull him at first because when I first found him, he had trouble getting on his feet and he was very bloody. I have gently cleaned him with warm water and paper towels, and put wonder dust on his comb, the best I could for now. I have him in the small hen house all alone so he won't get picked on. He has a heat light on him and water near and some kitchen scraps to tempt him to eat. One other thing. He seems to be blind! I can't tell for sure because he either won't open his eyes or they are swollen closed.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions????? Here are pics I took of each eye.

Also, the EE roo won't go in the chicken house and is soaked from standing in the rain all day (I can't catch him).

My theory is the BR took over because the other 2 roos were just too exhausted from fighting.

happend to my rooster last month i got rid of the other roo if i was you i would seperate them into 3 different flocks and also keep tjem isolated till the blood is gone his eyes will open the reason there closed is because its dried blood make sure there drinking and eating also

George is walking around a little now, but he is still staying under the heat light.

Is there anything else I should do for him??

He is a very sweet rooster and I would hate to loose him.

I would put some Neosporin(without pain reliever) on his injuries.
I would also add some electrolytes to his water(good for stressed birds) and maybe scramble him up an egg.
Just keep him quiet and calm and he should be OK, those comb injuries bleed like the dickens.
Oh, and just FYI-it WILL happen again as soon as you put him back out-the fighters will have to be kept away from each other.

Vetricyn is awesome for this kind of thing - you can spray it around and even in the eye. It actually does help healing. Don't worry - if he doesn't lose the eye the other wounds will heal really well, the wattles and comb have a ton of blood flow in them so they heal fast.

Last year I had a hen who had major head wounds and both eyes closed (Thanks be to God that He healed her!) I would purchase Duramycine (aka Tetracycline) a powder antibiotic [this is a very important as we had a rooster with head injuries, who only was treated with ointment. He died one week later.

. ] Replace it with his water so that that is all he drinks. You may have to syringe it into his mouth as he may not be able to see to drink it. I would still definitely put antibiotic ointment on his wounds, but not on his eyes.
One way to see if your rooster still has vision is to try shining a light on a bowl of food and hold it a few inches away from of his eye. If he pecks in the bowl and eats easily, he probably still has his eye. Also, watch to see if he blinks. This is another high chance of him being able to see.
Keep his wounds moist so that they can be kept clean and not scab over any infection. If you see any pus, keep a close eye on it. Put antibiotic ointment on it at least three times a day. With good care and antibiotic treatment of the wounds, he should make it.
