What is that in the shell after my chick was born?! Is it supposed to be there or did he or she come out too quick? They keep trying to stand but so far haven’t been able to. It’s only been a few minutes. Thanks!!!

Thats just hatching waste nothing to be worried about. It can take them a few hours to get on their feet so give it time before getting worried.

How is your little doing hopefully everything is going well? :)
Thank you, that’s so nice of you to ask! The first 3 are in the brooder now and getting acquainted with their Orpington sisters… I hatched double silver laced barnevelders which I’m really really excited for.. they found food and water and heat and they are so cute!

The fourth one is turning into an assisted hatch, it’s been 30 hours since external pip and they tried to zip the wrong way then gave up and had no activity all day.. they’re chirping and chewing so I’m giving them more time to make sure everything is fully absorbed. They look ready but I want to wait just in case. The inner membrane is in tact but I widened the pip hole to clearly see the beak and chick to keep an eye on them. They got kicked all around the incubator and stopped making progress after that.

So, when you say tried zipping did the chick turn in shell but just didn't break shell? Or did it just keep trying to zip but only making pip hole larger?
The second one — tried to zip but kept making pip hole larger. That was yesterday afternoon. :(

I have a video, I think I got 90 of egg cap off and loosened up inner membrane due to shrink wrapping.. hopefully it is resting and warming back up and will kick out soon. One wing and his head is free but the membrane is still on his back / shoulder.
