I have a cute little red small hen, not sure what type she is but does have some silkie in her. She is 1 year and weighs about 2 pounds. She was small when I got her and has remained small, up until about 2 weeks ago was giving me an egg a day.
She is all alone now. I didnt have the best of luck when choosing hens as babies, out of the 4 only 1 was a hen. (I am not allowed roosters where I live).
She started brooding one of her eggs right before we homed the 3 roosters. So she was ok being alone at that time.
It also turned out to be a rooster.
About 3 weeks ago it started grabbing her feathers on the back of her neck and pecking her.
We found a home for the rooster but it definitely took a lot of her feathers
I didn't notice her swelling and what was really going on until I started taking her out of the run and letting her roam in the yard with me.
She has acted somewhat normal even with whatever it is that she has going on.
I noticed a lump on her back about the size of a quarter that was filled with fluid.
I initially thought that she had an infection from the rooster pecking at her so I bought some Vetericyn to spray the wound however I cant see anyplace that there is an open wound. I also started giving her Clindamycin. I believe that the swelling was moving to her chest I just didnt really notice until about 3 days later. It also feels full of fluid
Two days ago when i would go check on her she wasnt coming out of her pen, nor was she eating regardless of what I put in front of her. When i picked her up later that day to give her some medicine she had a lot of phlegm come out. and then some more.
The next morning she ate and drank and seemed to be better as far as moving around. Then yesterday she had a little more phlegm but still seemed "ok" . I have been making sure she stays hydrated, giving her water from a syringe. I have added a little apple cider vinegar to the water as well.
Her poop was green and runny then yesterday it was green and hard. I am wondering if the only way to cure what this is, is to drain it? Is this a tumor?
Any advice would be so appreciated. I feel like I have googled everything but the right thing to help her. Thank you
