HELP! Goose with possible respiratory infection with strange symptoms

One of my geese recently became pretty ill over the past few days. A month ago both of my geese had a respiratory infection and was treated with Baytril. The symptoms mostly cleared up and after the 5 days I stopped medicating them. 2 days ago I noticed my 2 month old goose (Gilly) was breathing with her mouth open and was isolating herself. I ordered some Tylosin online that will be arriving tomorrow, assuming the respiratory infection returned. Her symptoms this time around are more severe but aren’t entirely in line with a respiratory infection as far as I know. Today I gave her an exam and watched her throughout the day to monitor her breathing, eating, and bowel movements.

She has no nasal discharge or tears, very occasionally sneezes or coughs but will breathe with her mouth open. No facial swelling. Her personality has changed, she seems depressed all of a sudden. She wasn’t interested in eating and all of her bowel movement’s were liquid and splattered and infrequent. She periodically shakes her head, but when she lays down her whole body trembles lightly. She seems ever so slightly off balance as well.

Her bowels look similar to others who are experiencing a blockage of some kind. My other goose has some symptoms of a respiratory infection but not nearly as bad, he tears up in one eye and sneezes occasionally. She perks up sometimes, just 80% of the time she seems depressed.

How do I feel her abdomen for abnormalities? Could these all be symptoms from a respiratory infection? Should I treat with Tylosin? Could I give coconut oil or grit to see if that helps with her digestion? Could this be a blockage?

There are no (good) avian vets near me, and it has progressed so quickly I’m really worried about her. Here’s a photo of her bowels and face (her face is wet from drinking)

Gosh I'm so sorry about your goose.

I think it will benefit from the Tylosen, but did you give it probiotics after the Baytril? The diarrhea could be caused by the Baytril, or could be something else, but probiotics should help. Just don't give them while giving the Tylosen, but right afterward I would for about two weeks. You can try a little bit of yogurt, but we just use Hydro-Hen in their water whenever there's an issue. It would also help digestive issues if she's got something going on there.

Are your geese getting nutritional feed or just free-ranging? Maybe Poultry Cell in their water regardless, a few times a week would perk her up too and help her fight whatever is ailing her. Lukewarm regular gatorade a few times a day may also perk her up. Scrambled eggs is also very healthy and especially if she isn't eating much.

I hope she improves!! :hugs

Both of my geese have been on Tylosin for a little over 24 hours now and are already (slightly) improving, which was much faster than expected.
I gave Baytril over a month ago but didn’t follow up with any probiotics, but definitely will this time. Her stool is still a little off but seems to be improving as well.
Before I put them back inside to be monitored, they were given flock raiser and free ranged but now while inside are just eating flock raiser (which helps monitor her stool because there shouldn’t be anymore green in it).
And thank you so much! They’re getting treated now and hopefully will make a full recovery:)

Hi, how is your goose?
I had similar issues last month. My friend as well and her ducks tested for avian metapneumovirus. I found the following helped significantly:
Tylosin in water
VetRx in throat (a few drops greatly improved breathing)
Move fowl outdoors for fresh air
Tobramycin or gentamicin drops in eyes if swollen or infected
Nutridrench or poultry cell in water
Egg yolks as a treat
I found that force feeding them liquids clogged their breathing even worse so I just left food and water for them and they started eating independently after a couple days
