Picked up three silkies this week they are around 17-20 weeks.

Noticed the blue one is slightly larger and looks different although they have less beard too. The comb and wattles are concerning me. Also seems the most confident and least affectionate of the bunch. We aren’t first time chicken owners but are first time silkie owners so weren’t aware how hard they are to sex -all three were sold as females.

We’ve arranged to take blue one to breeder to get an opinion and switch for a female but we are starting to get attached :( we can’t have a rooster though so can’t risk it. Keeping them seperate for now from other chickens and all 3 are very quiet no crowing.

What do you guys think?

Also feel like it’s harder because of the colouring 😅

Yep, and the seller likely knew it unless they didn't ever look at their birds.
Thanks deffo no chance it could be female? No crowing but we are taking it back on Friday. I did think to myself as a breeder I would think it could be a male potentially but assumed they’d have the experience no to give me a male 😆

Big conb and wattles, dark wings and messy poof all indicates male, sorry.

No worries thanks so much I think I knew it in my heart 🥲 if we get silkies in the future we’ll look for older ones - I’ve seen a few more breeders (not as local to us though) that sell them closer to 7 months which gives a better indicator of age we are new to the silkie world 😆 the other two are lovely little girls (I hope!) and super affectionate.

Also from the first pic do you think the black one could be a male too? No big comb and small like the white but I’m worried about the tail?

Something to look for with your next purchase:

Pure bred Silkies (Chinese) should have black skin everywhere on their bodies and on the inside too. And they do have blueish earlobes.

Siamese Silkies have normal colored skin, so their faces and wattles will be pink/red.
