This summer, one of my hens, Sugar, a Speckled Sussex, was attacked by an eagle. She later got sour crop and recovered from it a month or two ago. It wasn’t a huge deal. I just noticed her face looked… off. Upon further inspection she’s breathing with her mouth open quite often and has foam/bubbles in the front corners of her eyes. How should I treat?? It is very wet and rainy here if that has anything to do with it. She is very beloved to me and after all this I want to do the best I can for her. She will be turning three in May 2023. And the eagle attack left her beak slightly crooked if that says anything. Thanks in advance for any help!

Sorry, the pictures are bad but you can kind of see the foam in the corner of her eyes:

Looks like the start of a respiratory infection. Mycoplasmosis is the most common. You can provide supportive care if it looks like she's struggling, but most healthy chickens survive just fine (it's like getting a bad cold). She seems to be doing ok in the photos so I wouldn't panic.

Okay thanks! That’s a relief! Should I wait a few days and then report back how she’s doing?

If she’s eating and drinking and acting normal I would just watch her. hopefully some of the more experience members will see your post and have some further advice. Since it’s holiday time people may not be on their computers as much. I would post again at any time if you feel she’s getting worse or has increasing difficulty. Is isolating her from the flock A possibility? I hope she improves I know how it feels when you’re so worried and don’t know what to do and care so much.

I would guess that she has mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG,) a chronic respiratory disease. The foam in her eyes and swelling of the eyelid or face might be the only symptoms, or she could have rales or sneezing. Tylan 50 injectable given orally 3 times a day (0.25 ml per pound for 5 days) can treat it, as well as Tylosin powder in the water 1 tsp per gallon of water for 5 days can treat symptoms. Here is a good article about it:

Is the right side of her face swollen? It seems very puffy in the photo compared to the left side? Have you tried flushing her eyes?
I think it is. Is that bad? How do I flush her eyes?

Should I separate her? Is that fatal and is it contagious? Thanks for the article by the way.

Yes I can separate her. She’s behaving normal just her foamy eyes, swollen face, and breathing with her beak open are definitely noticeable.
