Looking for advice- this is my first flock and they are 5 months old, and so far I have not had to deal with any ailments.
This morning I noticed one of my welsummers closing one eye a lot. I didn't see anything there, and she was able to open it but just kept closing it back up again.
I was keeping an eye on all of them today since it's 95 degrees. Later on I noticed the same pullet- Lilo- sleeping a lot and just generally laying around a lot. She would wake up and went out to run around for a bit while I let them free range like usual, but whenever things settled down she would start falling asleep again, sometimes even standing up. She is still favoring closing that one eye.

So far I have:
Separated her from the flock- she is in an air conditioned basement in a wire crate with food and water. She has been eating. Hadn't seen her drinking but I haven't been watching her constantly, as of course I have company over for the holiday as well.
Pooping- normal to slightly watery, but so are the rest of them on a hot day like today drinking so much water.
Antibiotic ointment on both eyes- just in case.
Still doesn't look like anything on that eye.

She so far seems to be a bit perkier down there but she also may not be comfortable enough in the surroundings to go back to sleep.

I'm hoping best case scenario she was just getting too hot outside in the heat, and maybe the eye was a fluke and she just scratched it or something.
Otherwise that's about the extent of my triaging knowledge.

Anything else I should do?
Any thoughts on what else could be happening?

Oh! I will try that!

As an update she is still falling asleep a lot in the basement. :(

I would only use the ointment in the affected eye, or switch to a lubricating eye drop, since ointment can temporarily make the vision cloudy. Look for bubbles in her eye. If you have electrolytes or NutriDrench, I would give some. In the meantime, feel of her crop to see if it is empty, full, firm, or puffy. Look her over around and under the vent and wings for lice or mites. How are her poops? Any runny diarrhea or blood. You can offer some soft cooked egg and some wet chicken feed to get her to eat and drink. I would be tempted to take some droppings in tomorrow to get tested for coccidiosis and worms.

I do have sav-a-chick left over from when I first got them shipped. I could give her some of that.

I'm not sure how/who to take a stool sample to. I am in the middle of the city so not sure if there are any vets nearby who treat banryard poultry. Could I treat prophylactically for worms or is that not recommended?

I don't think anything is wrong with her crop... I didn't notice it enlarged when I was carrying her.

As for poops, they are watery, but it was also reeeeally hot so usually my chickens poops are watery anyway from drinking so much water.

I would treat her with water and electrolytes for now, since she may just be dehydrated. I would be more worried about possible coccidiosis than worms causing her illness and diarrhea. You could call your regular vet to see if they would do a fecal float on your chicken’s droppings. Corid is the usual medicine for treatment, and not harmful if you treat her anyway. If she is more perky and eating, drinking in the morning, I would watch her, and think about placing her back with her flock.

Look at her eye just to make sure there is nothing in it, irritating it. Dust, ammonia odors, or a peck can cause a sore eye. The can be more ominous problems which cause a closed eye, but hopefully, this is not anything serious.

I was just going to post the SAME symptoms for my 2 month old Dominique....she seems totally normal, but sleepy and closing one eye. Can I just get electrolytes at Agway? Haven't checked stool yet, as she was JUST isolated, but most of the girls have had softer stools with the 95-degree heat. Keep me posted on what you find out. I'll do the same

Feed stores usually sell one or more elctrolyte with vitamin products. Poultry Cell, NutriDrench are ones used orally, and there are powder ones, such as SaveAChick, Durvet, and Rooster Booster Vitamins With Lactobacillus, and others.

This morning her poop is looking totally normal- not watery at all.
She is still sleepy, but perks up for eating, or yelling at me when she hears me coming.
I haven't seen her drinking yet but I soaked some food in electolyte water and she ate that. I am going to give her a watermelon slice to eat today to keep her hydrated. I don't know if she isn't drinking at all or if I just didn't see her.
I work today so I was only watching her for a little while this morning.
