Hello, I have owned chickens for 6 years now and have come across many injuries and illnesses. Today I was thrown a new one and I would love if anyone else can help me get to the bottom of this! My 1 year old hen was completely fine and normal yesterday. Today I went outside to throw out a couple handfuls of scratch and she was walking funny to me and upon further inspection, I noticed her neck on the opposite side of her crop is huge, causing her to stand with her head pushed back making it look like her chest is all puffed up. Once I caught her to look her over I felt her crop which felt squishy but slightly full, like it had water which is normal cause she was drinking right before calling them for treats. They free range the entire day, everyday around 40 acres so I can’t have eyes on what she could have gotten into. Attached are the best pictures I could get of said issue. Let me know what you think and if it’ll resolve itself, or if she needs intervention.

Does the left side of her chest feel like a leaking air sac with air under her skin? Does she have any trouble breathing? A leaking or ruptured air sac can be deflated with a hypodermic needle and syringe from the feed store after sterilizing the skin.

No air sack rupture from what I can feel. There’s no bubble under her skin near neck or wing. She seems to be perfectly normal otherwise. Her crop was full of feed right before bed, and emptied normally this morning and I also know it’s not sour crop based off past experience and this is on the other side. She’s out free ranging like normal so I know her neck isn’t broken or paralyzed. I have noticed she walks around with her tail fanned out to help balance. I went and grabbed a syringe and needles yesterday but when I felt and looked around there was no sign of an air sack. Can adult chickens get wry neck? It’s almost like her neck is rested back causing her chest to look like a lump and puffy in that spot. I’m completely stumped. Have never come across this before.
