I went out to clean the coop today and noticed one of my young hens had developed swelling just in front of her eyes. Her eyes are watery and the membranes look just a bit pale. I have segregated her from the rest of my flock. This is only my 3rd year keeping chickens and other than coccidiosis in chicks, I've not dealt with any illness before. Any sugestions?

Could you post a picture? Is she sneezing or coughing? Have you added any new birds of any kind to the flock recently? MG and coryza are chronic respiratory diseases that can cause sinus swelling of the face.Pus may collect in the eye, and need to be cleaned out. Does she have a bad odor which can be common in coryza? I would get Tylan 50 injectable at your feed store, cattle section. Give her 1/2 ml (for under 5 lb) or 1 ml (if over 5 lb) either orally or by injection into the breast muscle once or twice daily for 3-5 days. I would give it orally for 5 days. If they don't have Tylan, get oxytetracycline, Gallimycin, or Tylan Soluble Powder for the drinking water. Here is a good article that includes respiratory diseases and symptoms: http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/ps044

I will post a picture tomorrow. Haven't noticed any sneezing or coughing. There is a clear, watery discharge from her nostrils, did not smell any strong odors. No pus either, just clear, watery eyes and nasal discharge. No new birds, just our year olds and this years birds. I will pick up Tylan tomorrow. Thank you for your advice!

Not trying to hijack but does it look like the attached photo? she has watery eye and white fibrous like material and smells nasty. Just found this today.

Trying to find out more about this too.

No new birds, do have a ground squirrel that both my neighbor and myself are trying to exterminate, he is using a bait/poison not accessible to any of the birds.
No sticky puss, wife says that the material is fleshy like.
Thanks

Not quite, no odor that I've noticed. No white material. Swelling is worse today than yesterday though.
