Hi everyone,

I’m new to raising chickens and recently got this lively little hen. She has such beautiful feathers, and when I searched online, Google suggested she might be a bantam Wyandotte. However, her personality is completely different from what I’ve read about that breed!

She’s super energetic, loves flying around, and absolutely refuses to be handled. Definitely not the calm and docile type!

I’ve attached some photos to help: there is one of her as an adult with her beautiful brown plumage, and also one of her as a chick (she’s the yellow one of the two).

If anyone recognizes her breed or has other suggestions, I’d really appreciate your help.

Thanks so much in advance—I’m looking forward to hearing from this amazing community!

She looks like a Wyandotte or pet quality cornish to me. My Wyandottes also have not been like what Google says lol. Mine are very energetic and my one (Puck) would never let you pick her up! How old is she? Usually, they have larger waddles.

Not sure about this one. My best guess would be (bantam) Indian Game, but her build isn't exactly what it should be for said breed. Doubt she's an OE, and i haven't heard of rosecomb Bernevelders. @JedJackson @MysteryChicken @JacinLarkwell , any thoughts?

Edit: Indian games have pea combs, she does not. Really not sure what she is

Bantam Dark Cornish, pet Quality, also most likely Utility type(Layer).

Thank you so much for your suggestions! I hadn’t considered Cornish bantam before, but it makes sense. I’ll look into it more. Do you think her temperament is typical for this breed?

I’ll share more photos as soon as I can. What I can say for now is that she’s not a mix, as she comes from an official breeder.
I adopted her around mid-May, and she hasn’t started laying any eggs yet!

She's a dark Cornish bantam for sure. There is no mistaking that body type for anything else bantam sized. She's not show bird quality as she does not have double lacing and her comb is a little off, so maybe that's why there was some confusion. She's beautiful nevertheless.

Flighty and energetic aren't the norm for Cornish. They are a heavy breed and the bantams are, I believe, second behind Brahma bantams for weight. But it's a good thing. The more exercise she gets the better for her health. But I would probably avoid high roosts for her because hard landings can cause leg issues with Cornish, due to body type and the way the legs are set far apart to accommodate their wide breasts.
