I've been reading the comments and suggestions, and I think I'm doing something wrong with my new chickens.
I pick up a big bag or scratch mix from pet barn, yes I'm Australian. It's the WATSONS AND WILLIAMS SCRATCH FEED FOR CHICKENS one. It says it's complete dietary solution for my chickens. It's got plenty of protein, and frankly, I'm happy with it. But now I'm having doubts, everyone is saying to me it's just meant to be a treat, not their meal.
They lay plent of big eggs, and I'm happy so far,
So,
What should I do?

It's got 2% fat and 10% protein. I'm not worried about calcium because the eggshells are nice and hard.

That's not enough protein for a laying hen, or any chicken frankly... Most layer feed is at least 16% protein.

Also, calcium is very important, even if the shells seem hard now. Hens will take calcium from their bones to make the eggshells with if they don't have enough in their diet, causing their bones to become brittle and raising the likelihood of breaking. I'd go for a layer feed with 3-4% calcium. Are you giving them oyster shell on the side?

I'm not sure why it says it's a complete dietary solution, because scratch is not really complete in nutrients and protein.
Either of these look like better options, both are also from petbarn's website.
