Hello everyone. I woke up to see that my 3 week old chick had been pecked badly. Like a gaping hole under the wing. I haven’t lifted to see if under the wing is damaged yet as I’m running out to get vetericyn spray ASAP. I’ve never had an injured chick like this so I’m kind of panicking. I attached an image but you can’t see the wound in its entirety. The chick is picking at its own wound now and I’m wondering how to stop it? It’s very lively and alert and is sad to be separated. I’m horrified though. Any information or tips would be appreciated. I want Nugget to pull through

Hello, so sorry to hear about your chick. It’d be very helpful to see pictures of the wound in full if possible. Good signs the chick is alert and lively. Is it eating and drinking okay? You have seen the chick pecking at its own wound?

You will also need some ointment if you do not have any. Something like Neosporin will work well, but it needs to be the kind without any pain relief in it. Vetericyn is good to spray on wounds, rinsing with sterile saline will also work if you can’t find Vetericyn.
