This is our 5-week-old Easter Egger (yet to be named). It is definitely the most aggressive of our 17 chicks (the rest are all confirmed pullets); but the color patterns make me believe this EE is also a pullet.
its not really a good way to tell but i usually look at the other chicks combs and see if there is a significant difference in size/height. but it can end up wrong so i wouldnt trust this.
When I was out working on the coop yesterday, a dog started barking. All of my girls huddled up in the corner and this EE circled around them and stood straight up between them and the direction the "bark" was coming from... Like I said, the behavior certainly looks "roo-ish"....
At this point I would say wait and see. That comb is very narrow, only one row, whereas ee roo's usually have a wide, three row comb. There's also not much color in the comb yet either. And the coloring looks girly to me too. My ee hens have always made me suspicious because they are usually the biggest in the group with the biggest legs etc. I haven't had one turn out to be a roo yet. But they sure can be deceiving. I would just give that one a bit more time. The attitude could just be boss hen material!
I had three Araucanas that I believe were wrongly labeled (pretty sure I got some EEs instead), and really only one acted like a pullet. One was a total boss, and attacked everything that moved, that was Clover. August was just plain wild! Lilac was a normal chicken, just poor little Lilac
