Hello, our chicks are about 13 weeks old. We noticed one looked different. The breed is starlight Easter egger. It bullies the flock and has a lot of bright red. Does anyone know of this looks like a rooster? šŸ”

Hi there!

At 13 weeks, this chick could just be an early bloomer and more mature than the others, which could explain how red its comb and wattle are. If it's a cockerel, I would expect crowing any day now. Bullying and dominance don't necessarily help sex a chicken, pullets can definitely be bullies too.

I don't see any clear signs it's a cockerel. If you're able to take photos without the hardware cloth in between it would be easier to see.

Agreed, pointy feathers would indicate a cockerel, but sometimes the way feathers are patterned can make them look pointy even if they have rounded ends. Does this chicken have pointy saddle feathers? The saddle feathers are on the chicken's back so they are not visible in the photos.
