Help waterproof my nesting box

The first rainstorm in a while helped me to realize that my nesting boxes are far from waterproof. I have considered using flex tape along the seam but do not know how it will hold up with the gap while opening. I have temporarily fixed the problem with weatherstripping but it is not an effective solution.
I still want it to look pretty, but also do not want to spend an arm and a leg. Any advice is appreciated!

Increase the roof overhang will likely help.

Cut a strip of this Vinyl Roofing stuff and secure it firmly over the hinged section here:

That little bit you have there isn't enough, water is insidious!
Try that first or in concert with extending the roof.

This is what I ended up doing with mine, just like Thistlewick said. I've also gotten a small piece of wood trim, painted it black and stapled it to the black wood shed trim over the top edge of the plastic to make it look a little neater. Dont have a current pic of that tho.

This is the plastic I used, the one piece was perfectly sized for my 6 ft long nest box.
