Hello! I’m new here and hoping for some help identifying a chicken. We rescued it from the side of the road where it had been abandoned. Does anyone know the breed and possible age? It is small compared to our layers and we believe it is still a young juvenile. Any help would be appreciated. TIA

It's a mixed breed bantam. That coloring wouldn't come from a purebred. Maybe some old English game and Japanese bantam or Serama involved, but not sure.

I think it is young. The question is whether it is a pullet or young hen, or a cockerel. The photo is too blurry to tell much.

Thank you! I figured it was a bantam. I’ve attached a few better pictures which may provide more info. We believe it may be a rooster given its tail and the pointed neck feathers but we are not sure at all. You can see its size compared to our layers.

Yes, it's a cockerel. The legs are white, which means there's a good chance he is at least in part an old English game bantam. Very pretty coloring.
Thank you for your help! This is all very interesting. He does have very pretty colouring, we are looking forward to seeing what he looks like as he grows. Have a great Thursday!
