First time chicken parent but lots of experience hatching & raising pigeons. I hatched this little one along with a silkie chick 2 weeks ago. The silkie is 3 times the size of this one but this one does have 5 toes so I assume it’s a silkie cross? Is it a frizzle? The breeder said she thinks it’s might be a sizzlepoot? I had to separate it as the silkie chick attacked it.

I’ve never heard of a sizzlepoot haha. Hard to tell for sure on the frizzle aspect - some of the feathers look a little curled and some look completely straight. That is kind of strange if your 2 week silkie chick attacked this one. Usually chicks that hatch together get along fine even if there is a size difference. How long have they been separated?

I have a wire barrier between them because the bigger chick is constantly jumping on this one & stomping on its head, they can still sit together. The little one had a very swollen head & was bleeding a lot. They play together supervised, the bigger one “finds food” & calls the little one over excitedly!

Very smart solution! The chick looks like it could be frizzled because of the rumpled feathers, but usually frizzle chicks have wing feathers that curve more decidedly away from the body. It's just not clear yet to my eyes.

Awww I’m glad they can still see each other through the wire and have supervised play. That would be so hard to deal with! Maybe when this one gets a little bigger it will be okay to join the other again without worrying about it getting seriously injured. Do you know if the breeder had lots of different breeds all combined?

Thanks when I tried to put them in separate enclosures they were distraught so this was my solution! They sit side by side at the bars & sleep together etc.

Yes she breeds polish, silkies & a few others all bantams so it’ll be interesting to see how the tiny one turns out. My plan is to put them back together when this one grows a bit because the size difference between them is ridiculous. They’re fine when supervised because I say hey & the silkie (I’ve named them tank because they’re a little machine ) stops straight away! I’m surprised how smart they are :)

I was thinking maybe polish cross, but it is really hard to tell this early!
