Hen didn’t lay on 22 day old eggs over night

The babies can survive a couple of days on what they absorb from the egg just before hatch. Don’t let her go more than a couple more days with the eggs, then take them out of the nest and all should be ok. If you’re worried you can put some food and water nearby in case the hatchling needs it, and mama will appreciate it too.

Oh that’s great news I was worried they’re all dead now 😢 I’m hoping they start hatching soon! I was going to give her maybe 2-3 more days with the eggs and then call it. There’s about 13 eggs under her 4-5 of them have zero life in them but figured I would just keep them there until the rest hopefully hatch. Would that be ok. I’ve never done this it kind of happened on accident so I’m just learning everything I can now.

If you can it would be better to take the dead ones. They can leak, explode, etc and make a huge mess. Plus make the babies sick.

Have the other hens had access to the nest? It’s possible that you may have some that aren’t as far along if so. It’s best to give her just a couple more days and then remove any that haven’t hatched. She’ll need to start taking care of the hatchlings.

In the future when a broody starts sitting mark the eggs that are there and then you can remove any new eggs that are laid so they don’t start to develop embryos.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
If you know there are lifeless eggs under her, it's better to remove them as they could explode and contaminate the remaining eggs and sicken the hatched chicks.did not know this

Hi! Thanks! I did not know this. I will get rid of them last today after work! Should I be concerned about the ones that weren’t sat in last night?

Ok I didn’t know anything about that! So I will take them out tonight after work thank you! I marked the ones that looked like they are full blown chicks that should be hatching soon with a pencil last night. How many more days do you think I should give her? I also don’t know how many days it’s actually been but I would assume like 22 considering the other chick was born 2 days ago. I didn’t really know it was happening and then found the baby chick and had checked how many she was on. So it was kind of a mistake but now I want to be sure that most of them make it since I let it get this far on accident.

It’s a learning experience for us all I assure you! Once you have a broody do all the work it’s really the best way lol. l think 2 days and call it quits. That’s already pushing the limits for the hatchling so the food and water nearby is important. You also don’t want a big age gap in chicks if possible:
