So one of our hens Goldilocks was acting strange last night. Looking on our cams we saw she was sleeping on the ground which she’s never done before. She was also up on and off until approx midnight. I have a vid of her trying to possibly pass an egg (and failing) from last night though I don’t think it’ll let me add that. This morning she seems to luckily have recovered or at least isn’t acting odd. We also found this soft squishy egg that I think was causing her issues. My question is mainly do you think that’s what her issue last night was? Also is this just something that happens or is there something wrong? This is our first flock and our first weird egg. They’ve only been laying for about a month they are getting layers feed so hopefully that will help improve eggshell density if that was an issue.

If you don't have a dish of supplemental calcium for your hens to eat from when they feel the need I would put one in the coop. You can buy crushed oyster shell from a feed store or keep your hen's eggshells and to crush up. Layer feed doesn't always provide enough calcium. Some of my girls barely touch the extra crushed eggshells I provide, but a couple others are always diving in during the summer when they lay the most.
