Like many who started off with a Chinese wooden coop/run and having realised quickly it wasn't practical, I learnt fast. I went in search of something a lot more robust and easier to clean. I compared functionality between Nestera and Henlays coops, but being a huge Pugin fan, in the end it was a foregone decision.
At 70kg, it's substantial and takes two to move when built. No wind is going to blow this beast away. There's ample airflow from vents at the top and holes along the front and rear panels. Cleaning is a doddle. The roof panel lifts off easily, and slots back on without effort (the panel is around 5 kgs). The rear nest box is well constructed and easy to access, there's a toggle to secure it against invaders. Being raised, it's also a lot easier to access the interior. There are three roosting bars, which are easily removed if your girls prefer to huddle.
The only slight gremlin were the instruction sheets, not every part was covered but if you've made a few flat-packs, it's easy enough and no tools are needed but a rubber mallet is helpful. A decent pair of gloves is a must, the plastic isn't kind to skin when making up and for moving.
Price is around £600 which seems a lot until you build it, and it's clear to see its quality. I am of the opinion that it will outlast me. By many many years!
And yes, the girls absolutely love it!
