Hi everyone. I'm new to posting on this forum, though I've been reading it for a while now. Everyone here should give themselves a pat on the back for creating one of the friendliest and most informative forums I've ever visited. I've learned more from browsing BYC than from all the books about chickens and magazine articles I've read combined. Great job!
I've been trying to come up with a cost effective coop design for some time and I've noticed others posting here looking for cheap coop plans, too. I came across a site that sells shed plans of many shapes and sizes, any of which could easily be converted into a nice coop:

Anyone looking to build a new coop might want to give that site a glance or two. Many of the shed designs are of the same type you might see for sale at your local lumber yard, and building them yourself should bring the price down by more than half (my personal estimate anyway) since the lousy housing market has brought the price of wood back down to a semi-reasonable range. I bought the 12x16 gable plans yesterday and have found them well worth the $12 it cost to download and print. The download time was almost instant with a low-end DSL connection.
Every plan comes with a complete materials list so you can price it before you get started (actually I think they let you view the materials list even before you buy the plans). The set I ordered look fairly easy to follow and understand. The diagrams give you dimensions, angles, and step by step assembly instructions. They claim you only need 4 tools to build one, I guess I'll find out if that's true when I start building it.
Anyway, I thought people looking for cheap plans might find something they could easily adapt to chickens at that site.
