Hi all !

I am amazed at the size of this community and totaly impressed by the organisation and structure ! It seems great !

I'm on the 23rd day of a chicken incubation without good results,... They rocked at 19 days but stopped at 21 ?!... So forgive me if I gather my thoughts and make a pain of myself in some threads by asking "why !" repeatedly

Didn't know the PM had chicks.

And why would you wait for him anyways?

Good luck with your next batch! So how many chickens do you have currently?

Cool! A UK member. You guys have lavendar Ameracuanas. We don't that I know of.

Welcome to BYC, I'm from the high desert in CA.

Sometimes weather can ruin a hatch. I don't know your weather. Drafts are a bad thing. Real cold
weather can be bad too.

Check the eggs with a pen light and complete darkness.

Usually you start your candeling at day 7. At the seventh day you should see red blood veins and the young chick will look like a spider.

Day 23 are more than likely dead eggs. And dead eggs can pop, and stink so be careful.

Good luck,

Suzzie

You are all very kind.

Thank you for the warm welcome.

I suspect There may have been many things that interfered with my first Incubation attempt. Not least of which is the freezing weather (despite collecting 2/3 times a day) and the fact that the bator is old and the "old metal diaphram" might be tired. It's an old "Cunfew" I borrowed.

I'm a bit more familiar with it now and will be able to keep a better humidity and temp (I hope)... I had a few hours at 96 on occation. It's still early and I'll try it one more time with this incubator.

I'll wait one more day and do the "PM"... lol. "Post Mortem."

I've recently had .. 12 X-Bats (Warrens), 2 Black Rocks and a Masive Buff Orpington Cock. But I hold with the belief that there are "wild"/"Pet" and"Produce" animals... My darlin' Chooks are the later. So therefore I now have 5 X Bats. and a few good pies

The other three are my "Breeding trio"

I'm glad the bator is easily cleaned... I hope they don't burst before tommorow evening ....... *cringes at the thought*
