Hi to all! I am a state licensed class A Dealer and Candler/Grader from South Dakota. I have been busy raising chickens and selling eggs now for the past 5 years. I am now on my 4th new flock of hens and thought I'd try some different breeds. I usually have brown egg layers but decided to add some easter egg and white egg layers in for variety. Right now in the big coop I have about 40 hens (red sex-links, silver-laced wyandottes, buff orpingtons & americanas (4 of these)) and I get about 18-25 eggs a day from the lot. The babies (40) are brooding out in a very large cardboard box in the garage. They are about 3 weeks old now and love to sit on top of the waterers and "fly" down. I bought this batch from the local Bomgaars store so I hope they turn out to be good little egg layers. The breeds that these babies are as follows: barred rock, americanas, california white & sicilian buttercups. So what I am wanting to know is who has or had the california white and sicilian buttercups and what did you think of them?

I'm not familiar with those breeds but, others should be coming on here shortly. Someone will know. You could put the breed name in the search box and see what pops up. Welcome to BYC

Please make yourself at home and we are here to help. Sounds like you have a great small business going! Sounds like you also have great breeds! I've never owned the two breeds you are asking about but I've attached links about them. I've also attached a link to the leaning center where you'll find lots of great chicken info.

Again welcome!

Welcome to BYC!

Sounds like you have your hands full with chicks and chickens!!

I have never kept Buttercups, but think they are a very nice looking breed. You might want to stop by the Buttercups thread for more info on this great breed and what people think of it....

The California White thread is not all that popular, but it is still active as far as I know...
