I know this is Backyard 'Chickens' , but, I've gained valuable incites about Ducks & Geese on it. The members all seem friendly, outgoing, & ready to help so here I am...

I'm an Engineer approaching retirement. For years I've run a small hobby farm on and off(mostly off, lots of travel for business). I told my wife that when I retire I'm going to focus on the farm more, possibly sell Duck / Goose meat & eggs at farm markets for pocket money. This will allow me to do the 3 things I love best:
  • Tinker.
  • Putter.
  • Eat good food, both well prepared, & good for you
I've traveled a lot over the years sometimes I was away from home 45-48 weeks a year. So I don't plan on any regular travel longer than most day trips. That will allow me to tend to the flock and keep up with the maintenance.

I like working with animals, with the correct attitude, & kindness toward them they are generally preferable to humans for me. I know it sounds a little off, but, I've never known an animal to lack integrity, be intentionally deceitful, or not return kindness with the same.

So, I'm here to help & be helped along the way, I've got a fair set of problem solving tools, and a few years of experience behind me. I look forward to joining in the conversations & learning from those who've been there, done that.

Cheers!

Love your member name...16 tons, what do you get? another day older and deeper in debt

Your retirement plans sound wonderful. Make yourself at home here, there are plenty of members that have all sorts of poultry and other animals so you'll fit right in.

Thanks for joining us!

Sixteen tons, I remember that song from when I was a young girl (70 now).
"Sixteen tons and what do you get, another day older & deeper in debt."
