Higher protein feed was suggested to me here on the past forum when I saw a little feather eating on the ground and also from one of the hens. That has since stopped even before I got the high protein feed. The reason I am opening a thread again is that I was told at tractor supply to use meat bird feed as it has the higher protein. Is there a high protein layer feed?

I get feather fixer when my hens molt, which is 18%, higher than my normal 16% layer feed, but still has all the other things they need.

Nutrena makes a 21% layer feed and you can order that off chewy if you want. Meat bird feed is fine if you want to go that route, just provide oyster shell on the side. An all flock feed or chick starter would also work if they have one with the right protein amounts, again as long as you provide oyster shell on the side for calcium
