Hi All! I'm thrilled to say I am a chicken 🐓 newbie adopting my first chicks in mid July (after our family back vacation as I hear those little ones need a lot of attention!)

I've wanted chickens for years, but we never had enough land and lived in neighborhoods that didn't allow chickens anyway (Beaverton, OR). We recently moved across the country (Frederick, MD) and are buying my parents home on 1.3 acres and we are so excited to finally join Club Chick!

We are adopting 7 chicks🐣 from My Pet Chicken, hopefully all girls, but we shall see🤞.

We have ordered 2 Easter Eggers, 1 Olive Egger, 1 Buff Orpington, 1 Red Sexlink, 1 Barred Plymouth Rock, 1 Black copper Marans

We are excited for good eggs of course, but are most ready to learn these girls' personalities and enjoy them as pets (especially my 7 year old who is planning to be my helper).

We have decided all our chicks will be named after Harry Potter characters as I'm slightly obsessed. I read the series with each of my 3 pregnancies and now that I'm most likely done with that season of my life, the chickens will be my new "babies"🐤🐥

My list of name ideas includes:

Ginny or Lily (Red sexlink)
Molly (buff orp)
Myrtle
Pansy
Petunia
Minerva/Minnie - (whoever lands at the top or close to top of the pecking order 😂
Hermione
Luna
Fleur
Bellatrix (Bella) (BCM)

If I get a Roo, I will try to keep him (I think). If he is friendly, he will be "Harry" if he is a bully....well. I guess he will be "Voldemort"😂😂

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Very nice breeds you have chosen, I think you will enjoy them greatly! Cute names, naming them is half the fun. :D

Make yourself at home here and if you have any questions about your chicks along the way, be sure to ask. Welcome to our community!
