Horse pine pellets vs pellet stove wood pellets?

Hello,

I’ve been using horse pine pellets from TSC in my chicken run for almost a year now and very happy with the results. However, the price of these pellets have risen and more expensive than the wood pellets I use for my pellet stoves.
Is is safe/ok to use the wood pellets in my chicken run instead of the horse pellets?

I've found that the stove pellets don't expand as much when wet. I found that out by accident when I bought stove pellets instead of horse bedding - lol! But I use them for my goats, and I actually wet them and turn them to sawdust before using them. You can try it, though, and see how it works for you.

Stove pellets in my experience are from hardwood not pine, in order to burn longer/slower. Here's a couple quick links to review and decide if it's worth the "risk" to you..

I did use stove pellets for my indoor mini pig litter box when they were young (already on hand for my pellet stove) and didn't experience any NOTICEABLE effect.

I also used them in chick brooders (until right now, I never even considered the difference).. it was heavy and not a good choice for me for brooding.. I never had any cause for concern or extra failures though.

Does that also mean don't absorb as much? Or the opposite absorbs more?

I found it didn't absorb as much, but it might be a difference in brands, too.
