Houdan pullet or roo?

How can you tell in mottled houdans? I love their personalities. Funny and silly little chicks. I have 3. This is the biggest, most gregarious of the bunch. “Einstein” is about 7 weeks old. i would love some advice and guidance.

Houdan hens have beautiful head poofs with rounded feathers. Roos have spikey, punk rocker head poofs. Keep an eye on those head feathers and you'll know pretty quickly.

What did you end up with? I think I’m going to get the DNA testing done because I’ve heard the Houdini Roos are super mean and he will have to go right away if he is a he! Mine is very skittish and scared.

I ended up with both. That one was a roo. I had no issues with being mean but lost them all in Hurricane Sally. I have new ones now because I fell for the breed.

Mine didn't develop the Qtip head until the 30 day mark. Before then it was the punk look. Here is Cruella at 30 and 60 days

She is adorable! At 3.5 weeks, mine had mostly feather shafts. He/she is 5 weeks old now and I will try to catch him tomorrow for an updated pic. I don’t see a nice soft round ball of fluff on mine though so probably boy. I bought 4 eggs for mama hen and so far 3 are confirmed male. This Houdan is my last hope for a girl. My rooster ratio is 75-100%!
