I have a Lavender Orpington Rooster and 2 LO hens. I have 11 other brown egg layer hens. Has anyone invented something that marks the eggs when it is laid with a color so I can tell which eggs the Lavenders laid? We want to hatch some. Or what is the least disruptive way to know which eggs came from my Lavenders? Thanks 20180428_083656.jpg

Some people will dye a vent of each chicken a different color. Make a color chart so you know who had each color. When the eggs are laid they have that color. Mark the egg what breed with initials after laying then set for hatch if want to hatch. Make sure it’s a fertilized egg. Sometimes you can tell by the type and color of the egg without the dye. :)

Other people choose to house breeds separately to keep breeding lines clean. Then you know for sure what the eggs are.:)

Do you know what type of dye is safe to use? We have been trying to learn what shade of brown egg they lay but it is quite difficult to be sure

Logistically that would be quite difficult. We are going to let our constantly broody hen "Cybill" attempt to hatch a set of eggs for the first time so we don't want to put a lot of time and effort into it. We also don't need anymore chickens so we thought we could easily sell the Lavender Orpintons

Cool. Make sure they are not a barnyard mix. Mixes may not sell as well. If you have mixed breeds together, you may just have a barnyard mix set of chickens -can rehome free on site here if can’t sell.
