How do you tell if a turkey hen is ready to lay?

Is there a way to tell if they are ready to lay? Like in chickens their combs get red. I have two turkeys hens who should be laying this year. When in the year do they start to lay?

Two of mine are 5 months old one is about 6 months. They are seasonal layers from my understanding and all 4 of my hens started laying within a few days of one another. I live in Texas and they all started laying about 2 weeks ago.

I went out to bring the girls into their coop the other night and one of the new hens (new meaning she was hatched last fall) kept squatting every other step. If I'd touch her PLOP, down she'd go. I'm guessing she's ready to lay. LOL! Their mother has been laying pretty steady for a couple of weeks now and I guess they're just getting the idea that that's what they're supposed to do.
