OK, I’m dealing with my white leghorn hen I believe is egg bound. She’s acting pretty constipated and I do feel something in her abdomenShe’s been trying to push out an egg for quite a while. She’s in her Epson salt bath do you know how long I’m supposed to keep her in there until I put her in a kennel to dry off?

Calcium tablets with vitamin D3 or Tums 300 -600mg from a pharmacy may help her lay an egg by increasing muscle contractions. Most times a warm soak should last 15-20 minutes.

You can find Citracal tablets, which contain D3, at any store that sells vitamins and supplements. Once you find it, look around for its generic equivalent, it's the same stuff but a lot cheaper. Your hen can swallow a whole tablet easily though they may look more like horse pills to you, lol. I find it best to administer in the evening after the birds have gone to roost and it's dark out. They don't see well in the dark and that way I don't chase them around in the heat of the day, which can be deadly, and isn't good for the chickens either (joke). Just pull down on her wattles to open her beak and pop it in, she'll take care of the rest.
