How long will a chicken have Coccidiosis?

Some of my chicks contracted Coccidiosis from their mother a few days ago, 4 died and 2 survived. When will I be able to put the babies back out with the other baby chickens?

Are the babies still with the mother? If not, you will need to raise them in a brooder until they are feathered fully, since the mother will probably not accept them. Then is would be best to slowly introduce them to the soil and perhaps give them a preventative treatment of amprollium, coxoid, or whatever medicine you used. I would not combine them into the flock until they are similar in size, but keep them fenced next to the flock.

The babies at 2 weeks old, they were treated with coxoid and there is no sings of the sickness anymore. They are still with their mum, but before the sickness hit I had two babies that were also two weeks old that I was going to put under the mum. When can I put those two new babies under her? She is a good mum and adopts new babies all the time.

I would be doubtful that they will stay with the broody or that she will accept them at that age. But since you know her better, you can try with a lot of observation. If the chicks don't stay with her they may be attacked by the other chickens. Have those 2 chicks been given a preventative treatment of coxoid?

They have, they have had the preventive and the medicated food. How long does the virus last in the cage? The last chick that had the sickness died 4 days ago. If I put these other two babies in could there be a potability that the virus is still in the cage? I've disinfected it with vet grade spray.

Just clean droppings up as needed and keep dry with fresh bedding. Chickens have to be exposed to some coccidia to build up a tolerance to it. The problem is if there is an overwhelming number of coccidia oocysts all at once. If they are exposed to some coccidia in the soil, they won't develop that tolerance. Since you have treated for it already, you should be very good to recognize the symptoms. It is impossible to completely clean away coccidia with any cleaning products completely. Be sure and give your chicks some vitamins and probiotics to help them repair beneficial gut bacteria and replace lost vitamins. Good luck.

As enola said coccidia is not a virus it's a protozoa and for all intents and purposes it never goes away and is always there...

What happens is that the birds build an immunity to it and are able to fend off it's effects, but it's still in their bodies and around the coop indefinitely for practical purposes...

Medicated chick feed will allow the birds time to build up an immunity...

If you have had an outbreak I highly recommend you get some soluble amprolium and have it on hand (actually all chicken keepers should have some on hand) as the medicated feed is not concentrated enough to fend off an outbreak...

Ok, fair enough, but I've already said that they are having a preventative in their water, plus the medicated food. But this still doesn't answer my question, can the new babies go in with the babies who were with the chicks who died from it 4 days ago? Is that long enough for the preventative and the medicated food to get in their systems to work and they not die?

Any time you put chivkens with other chickens you are introducing them to each other's diseases and parasites. The only thing you can do is put them together and watch very closely for symptoms to appear. You could also put the chckens together and them treat them all for coccidia.

One thing you need to understand about coccidiosis is ther are st least 9 different strains of the protozoa. So if chickens have an immunity to 2 strains but then you put that chicken in with chickens that have another strain, they can all get sick again because they have all just shared each other's parasites.
