If I keep letting my geese breed and/or adding goslings to their flock will they eventually start kicking some of the birds out? I only have a breeding pair right now, but I am curious about growing that. They have a 10X12 stall right now, but in the near future will have about 10 acres with a large pond and the barn would be open for them to come into (94X30) plus numerous other outbuildings and run-ins if they chose so I don't think space would be an issue, but I am worried about them arguing amongst themselves.

Depends on the geese, This is sort of like asking how many friends can one person have. I have had 23 in one flock at one time. Other times I had 3, a gander and 2 geese. The two females couldn't get along and the gander stuck with one goose and threw the odd goose out.

There will be factions (even among the females)
and the ganders will fight
especially during the breeding season.
In a natural/wild setting the youngsters are chased off
to find their own territory and to prevent inbreeding.
Domestic geese & ducks still retain that instinct to a degree.

I have a small flock of white chinese geese

But a large flock of brown chinese geese..............I need to recount but memory is that it's 22...........They have a large area of life and I've noticed that they are grouped into about 4 groups and it really matches up their birthing groups....... At the beginning of matings there was a lot of fussing...

I do remove the babies to another area.....This year I'm thinking of moving moms and babies to a separate area where the mothers can due their mothering and it not be competititve. I would like that and hope I can design an area where it works.

great luck!

NONE, geese come in gaggles.

Actually gaggle only applies to geese on the ground. a "skein" is a group in flight and I don't rember the term for a flock in the water, I think it is a raft of geese.

Oh that's cool, I never knew they were called something else in the air and water!
