I connected this egg today, wondering if there is something wrong with my hen. How much blood is too much?

It's common in new layers, blood amounts are variable if so.

If it's an older hen, she could be having issues with contractions, resulting in her straining harder to get the egg out.

5+ years.

Thing is, there really is nothing you can do about it. Maybe toss the egg if you want. But one cannot really stop or start a chicken laying.

Disturbing for sure, hopefully a one off glitch.
If it happens again, I'd start doing butt checks, see if you can figure out which hen laid it.

I have about 35 hens, the youngest are a year and a half, oldest are 7 or 8 years
