I've hatched and brooded chicks before, however this is the first time that I've done it in the fall. I am brooding them in the house due the weather this time of year. My question is, how much room would you recommend for 22 6 to 8 week old chicks? I just don't want any problems such as fighting or pecking due to them being overcrowded. Thanks

I'm going by "Raising Chickens for Dummies." According to the book, for the first month they need a minimum of 6 sq. inches per bird. But more would be nice, because then it recommends that after a month they need about 2 sq. feet per bird...so 44 sq. feet for 22 older chicks.

I have 13 5 week olds in a 6 ft by 2.5 ft by 2.5ft brooder. Looks like I'm going to have to make another one and split them up.
Silly chickies.
