How to encourage ducks to lay

Can anyone out there help, I had a gift, 4 girl ducks and a boy, they hangaround with my chicken's, iv had then for about 8 months,I had a very short egg period then nothing, the big question is HOW CAN I ENCOURAGE THEM TO LAY EGGS, please

What breed of ducks are they? Not all breeds are prolific layers. Some only lay enough to raise one perhaps two broods of ducklings a year.

I don't know that ducks can be encouraged to lay. That question would best be answered by duck people. Find them through the "Duck thread, on BYC.

I've never raised ducks, I'm a chicken person, but I suspect sourland is correct about all breeds not being equal when it comes to egg laying (just like not all chicken breeds lay equally). The duck forum people can best help you out and you have been given that link. If you aren't sure of your duck's breed, a photo would be helpful to them along with your question.
