I was told on the disease/injury/etc thread that my chicks were pecking each other. What can I do to stop this and will it carry over into adult hood?

Where do you have them and what do you feed them? They are old enough to be in a coop but maybe not if you have older chickens.

I used a product called Rooster Booster on my chicks.

I was told menthanol would neutralize the chicks smell / any chicks picking on other ones won't like the smell and stop. I've had the exact same problem with my guys I looked at all their backs and seperated one that didn't have any signs of picking on it and have since have had no problems.

Reminds me of when an aggressive rooster goes after the hens.

Do they have enough room ? Balanced feed ? Have you considered some chicken toys, for instance, broccoli hanging from the roof. Cackle Hatchery has some chicken toys.

I would probably shoot the injuries with Scarlet Oil --- it is an antiseptic wound spray that I use for my horses and my dogs. I wouldn't use Neosporin because goopy wound stuff will gather dirt, mites and clump up their feathers.

I have 10 late season chicks/pullets because a fox cleaned me out. I have tried to avoid friction between my hens by making their pen "interesting." I have several empty peach boxes, the water is on a different level, the feeder is hung up. They spend more time hopping up and over than fussing at each other. Also, the peach boxes let the more timid ones hide out of sight of the bigger ones.

Hope that helps

I have older chickens and ducks so I can't let them out till they're much older.

I have them in this brooder.

This is the kennel they were in for 2 days. Might be why they were pecking? It's 1/2 the size.

I'm going to have to do this. Thank you!! I'll be out boxes and bricks and sticks trying to make it all interesting today.

Should I separate out the worst pecked? The one in the pictures is the absolute worst but there are a few others who aren't looking so hot. I did use a cardboard box to make a hiding place for them. That enough?
