Just wondering if anybody has used an alternative form of Piperazine since Wazine went the way of the Dodo?

I wish I would have picked up a few pallets full, 16oz bottles are fetching $60 minimum on Ebay..

PIPERAZINE IS AVAILABLE WITH A DOG AND CAT LABEL ABOUT $12 PER BOTTLE SHIPPED AT PICCARDSMED Phone support 800-391-1730 Local 904-410-0214.

This cat de-wormer solution is 50 mg/ml piperazine. The amount of piperazine in one bottle of this wormer is 11.8 g. So the cost is just under $1/g.

The piperazine sold in powder form from Ukraine is piperazine citrate so it is 36% piperazine base. Compared to the cat de-wormer, this is less expensive at $0.56/g.

Additionally, I much prefer to individually dose my birds to ensure each one gets the correct amount. Dosing too little will cause a build up in resistance to the drug.

I dissolve the 100 g packet (which contains 36 g active piperazine) in 100 mls of water and gentle warm it to dissolve. This solution comes to 360 mg/ml of piperazine. Using a 1 ml syringe without a needle, I then draw up the amount of solution I need for each bird based on their weight in Kg and give them 150 mg/Kg*. I squirt the solution onto a small piece of bread until it is absorbed then feed the bread to the chicken.

The solution can be stored in the refrigerator so I label it with the preparation date and concentration and keep it in an amber bottle in the refrigerator. I have no qualms about using a solution for up to 1 year after preparation but because I have nearly 30 LF chickens, it doesn't make it that long.

*PoultryDVM states the following:
Egg Withdrawal Period: In Australia and Canada, piperazine is approved for 1-time use in egg laying hens at doses ranging from 130 to 200 mg/kg (59 to 91 mg/lb) with a 0-day egg withdrawal.
