How to get rid of lice

If you have a feed store they should have poultry dust. As for the sevin garden dust they should have those at any super market, building supply that has a gardening area. Good luck with the search.

I don't know what treatments you can get in South Africa.
It's the lice on the chickens head that may give you problems when trying to use any kind of poultry dust. Lice seem to be attracted to the ears and eyes and you can't very well dust these areas.

Permethrin is getting difficult to get labled for use on chickens in much of Europe. This may be the case in South Africa as well.

Below are two products I have been able to buy on Amazon. Both contain Permethrin and both work.

What I do is spray a small amount into something like an egg cup or a plastic bottle top and dip a cotton bud into the liquid and carefully apply the wet cotton bud to the areas around the eras and eyes.
If there are lice elswhere on the chickens body you can lift the feathers and use the spray bottle being careful not to spray close to the chickens head.

A tip on finding products.
I expect most people type something like lice treatment for chickens into their computer browser and end up with a list of "natural" remedies which are unlikely to work.
You will have greater success if you know the main chemicals names; in this case Permethrin and search for Permethrin spray for example not using the word chicken in the search.

thanks for the tips

In SA there is a product called Rossi 200(Active ingredient: Fipronil 182g/lt and Lambda-cyhalothrin (pyrethroid) 18g/lt.) but only comes in large quantities and are insanely expensive for a small scale backyard owner.

If I search for permethrin I get the following, will this work?
