Around 2 years ago, we decided to fence off around an acre of wooded area behind our house for our chickens/ducks/geese to stay in during the day. The enclosure itself is surrounded by fields on all sides but one - our yard. Anyways, in the summer, obviously some weeds and whatnot start to grow in/around there. Poison ivy being one of them. The other weeds are easy to get rid of if need be, but the poison? It spreads so dang fast, and all I can do is just pull it up (while wearing gloves). But of course it just comes back soon after. I hate having to worry about accidentally rubbing up against some when I'm in there with my flock.

Are there any ways to get rid of poison ivy that are harmless to my flock? Thanks in advance!

There some organic spray that are available in garden centers, mostly made out of fatty acids stuff, not sure how effective they are. Some people use Combo of oil and vinegar or bleach to spray on the leaves of poison ivy.

Avenger and burnout are two I've used at clients properties with sucesss.
Burnout seems to work better. Either one needs repeat applications on tuff weeds like poison ivy.

You may or may not like this answer... but goats... Goats LOVE poison ivy and will rip it out of the ground for you.

This is exactly what my neighbor used to clear a two acre plot. Sandy Hook State Park on the Jersey shore uses goats to control the poison ivy in many areas.
