How to medicate a hen with fluid in crop without causing possible vomiting?

Hello,

I have an older hen (8+ years) that has quickly developed what shows to me to be sour crop, and possibly more. I first observed it around noon yesterday. I didn't know at the time what I was dealing with, so I set up a dog crate I use for treatment and moved her to it for observation. She was a bit skittish, so it took a little manuevering to catch her. While carrying her out of the run and to her prepared crate, she started vomiting out some fluid. She probably did this 3 times during our walk to her crate. I was only holding her enough to safely move her and definitely wasn't trying to do any more than that (I now know that I was likely, inadvertently, pressing on her crop, but I'd never had a situation like this before). Anyway, she was safely moved to the crate and after she sneezed a time or two, was settled in with no further drama.

Now, I supspect sour crop, or that's probably my best guess to go off of right now. She has watery and yellow stools - yellow like an egg yolk color - and is still puffed up. My plan was to give her the ointment 2x a day for seven days (following the article), but I'm nervous about handling her and causing inadvertent vomiting while trying to give her the medication. I don't want her to asperate on any fluid, but she's not going to just let me hold her either. I feel like I'm going to need to balance holding her enough to medicate, but not in such a way that she vomits again.

Any pro tips to share?

Sorry, @Chad Oftedal , what I did there was to tag one of our Educators who I think is best qualified to assist you. Hopefully she'll show up soon with some good advice. Does your hen smell bad if you smell her breath? What makes you think she has sour crop? Let me see if I can find an article to help you while you wait.
