How to stabilize humidity in Brinsea Ovation

Does anyone have a tabletop brinsea ovation - the 28 egg capacity kind? I am going crazy trying to stabilize the humidity in it. I need to maintain 35-45% humidity for emu eggs that I have in it. The water wells in the bottom I think are too large for that level. So I have been putting in small water-filled glass jars (baby food jars, little mason jars etc.) But it seems to randomly change the humidity all the time. Sometimes having one baby food jar of water gives 35% humidity and sometimes I have to put 2-3 jars of water in. Sometimes I think the humidity is good before I go to bed, but then when I wake up it has dropped 10% despite there still being water in the jars.

There is one tiny vent on the incubator that doesn’t seem to make much difference whether it is open of shut.

Does anyone have any idea of what to do to keep the humidity up? My eggs are losing weight way too fast because the humidity keeps dropping. I’m scared I will kill them if this keeps up, maybe I already have :(

Is there an external water port? I'm not super familiar with that incubator, but if there's an opening, you could run a shoestring through. I've played around with that method a ton and it's very cool. It keeps the humidity at 42% exactly for me which is perfect for almost all of my eggs. If you feed in more string you can get it higher. If you post some overall pics of the incubator I'll see if I can help you figure something out for it. I love it for when I travel, the water lasts forever so no one has to check on anything. Here's a photo I snapped quick before we left. You can see kind of how I do it.

ETA, don't pay attention to the humidity or temp readings here. I had just set it up so the incubators had been open for a while.

There is some sort of auto humidity thing with tubing that I never hooked up because I thought it looked stupid 😂 and figured it is much easier for me to keep wells full to adjust humidity. I guess I could pull all that tubing stuff out and try it. I just always want things to be simplified 🤦‍♀️

I just read the owners manual and not only is it complicated but I’m not sure that it would work because the wells are directly under the eggs (since they are sitting on the floor instead of in the turners.)

I love your shoelace method. The only real place I could put it in is through the one tiny vent hole, but I may use that as a last resort if I have to!!

Haha! I get that. I wonder how the tubing stuff works. Does it have a humidity pump?.

The shoelace wouldn't have to be in wells, you could just run it all over around the eggs.
Is the vent in the lid?

The vent is in the lid! And it does have a humidity pump I suppose. I think when it’s hooked up, you can set the humidity level on the incubator and it will maintain it. Basically I think you just stick a tube in a water bottle and hook the tube to the pump and the pump fills the well with a sponge thing in it to the correct level. Never had an incubator like this before so I just don’t know if I can get it hooked up correctly or if it will work with emu eggs sitting on the floor of the incubator.
