I got 3 new baby turkeys tonight. I wanted Royal Palm, but the guy selling them said he wasnt sure if they were white midget or royal palm as he has both and couldnt tell them apart. Is there any way to tell them apart at a young age? Here is one of them if anyone can help :)

I'm not sure about that breed. Maybe someone else will come along and chime in.
me either

There may not even be a way to tell the difference yet, Im not sure, but I was hoping. We had a tiny one and it didnt survive the night. My fault though because I didnt put the light on right and it fell into the pine shavings and caught on fire. All that excitement had to be hard for him :(

It takes a while to tell them apart. Tom royal palms will start to show some black in the feathers as early as three weeks. Hens take a little longer. If there is no black showing by 8 weeks or so, it's a midget white.

Royal Palms that I have had started showing dark feathers much younger then that, by the 3rd week, wheras the whites, midgets or otherwise are all white. And stay that way. Of course the midget will be smaller. Also the Palms will have other darker feathers, not all white. Are yours all uniformly white?

yeah, they are all white, but they are only like 4 days old.

Okay, I thought that they were older, give them a week or two, then you may well see the occasional black striping on a feather or two, even one should say its a Palm, the whites will stay all white, and also small. If you have had other turkeys then you shoul notice the smaller size. Also, by the 2nd week the legs wont look as long as the Palms. They arnt a whole lot larger but they will be larger.

Just enjoy your little guys, whatever they are they will be interesting and fun. Midgets I have seen have also been docile, as the Palms, so its two breeds to enjoy. Go for it !

If one had longer legs than the other, i would say the long legged chick was a RP. My RP chicks shoot up on their legs in no time. But you would have to have a mix of W and RP to use this trick.

Well, I have had them for 4 days. They have a tiny bit of feathering on their wings, but not much. I was pretty sure the guy said they were only like a day old when I got them, I can text him and find out. Its pretty much gotten to the point where he texts me every time he hatches something to see if I want it. There was 1 tiny one, that didnt make it, but other than that they are pretty much the same size.

right now they are all the same size. So, whichever they are, I think all 4 are the same.
