Humane ways to kill rats/mice...

I agree that what the other girls did was inhumane, but do not trap a rat and release it elsewhere so that it can invade someone else's property.

Humanely dispatch it and be done with it.

Is there someone who can talk to those girls about their cruelty? Pain is pain and someone obviously left them clueless on this most basic of facts or they wouldn't have slowly beat the rat to death. un

I don't believe the girls were trying to be mean or cruel to the rat; they felt there was no other alternative but to kill it as they did. Twice they had tried to let it go, but it returned.
These girls are young, and have no guns, ether, special traps, etc. The killing didn't last long, it wasn't drawn out and I'm sure the girls didn't enjoy it!

Rats are total pests, carrying all sorts of disease. They will cause havoc in the hens' lives. People have been killed by the bites of rats. In slums, children have had their fingers/toes chewed off by rats. I won't share any stories, but this has happened. It made me weep to hear about it.

The rats' abilities to multiply are astonishing. I believe in killing them if I'm able to do so. Hopefully it is humane, but they should be dispatched as soon as possible, in whatever way available.

Yes, in this case, a baseball bat will take out a rat in one hard hit.

In the lab, we always used cervical dislocation. But you have to pull a lot harder than you'd think.

short of actually seeing one, how do you know if you have rats?? How do you get rid of them??
I do know I have a Mole and probably his entire family in my yard. Any ideas on how to get rid of them? I have tried just about everything possible and someone is going to break an ankle if I can get it to go away.
