Humidity levels in incubator for coturnix quail eggs

Hi, so I'm on day 15 of incubating my coturnix quail eggs and I just put my eggs into lockdown. I put only 50ml of water since with no water my humidity was staying stable at 50%-60%. Now it sprung up to 80%. Is that roo high? And what do I do now please?? Thanks.

As long as it starts to go down, you shouldn’t have an issue. I’ve found that the humidity during the first 14 days tends to have more of an impact on formation, whereas lockdown humidity is more about being high enough to keep the membrane from drying out after a pip. If the humidity is above 60% at lockdown the little guys should hatch just fine. What sort of incubator are you using?

I'm using that hhd 12 egg incubator. Another question I had is, since I live in a very humid area I only add around 20ml of water a day to keep the humidity above 50%. But when I add them, the humidity spikes up to 65% and then starts going down slowly until after 17 hours it's back down to 45% or 50%. Is that bad?? Tks

On my first hatch I made the mistake of adding the same 50ml of water, instead of half and then adding as needed... my humidity too was up that high... everyone that was going to hatch .. did so... just fine. No issues.

@Broodermy ... and yes! I too panicked when the humidity was that high as well! ... especially when everyone said that when they hatch it gets even higher and they can drown from that must moisture in the air... I will say the humidity didn’t really rise any more than what I already had it at and all hatching were thriving... no breathing issues and all was well

Yes, I agree! These little guys are super hardy, you’ll probably be just fine. According to the research, humidity has much less impact on mortality than temperature. As long as the temp is good you should have some little peepers in no time. Send us pics!
