Hello all. I just was making a safety hole in an egg that had internally pipped just in case since some of my other eggs had died after internally pipping. I had just gotten through the shell and accidentally slipped and the drill bit I was using poked into the egg before I could stop it. I’m pretty sure I poked the chick. It felt like I did, anyway. It wasnt too hard, but much harder than I like. Anyway, do you think the chick will be okay? I’m so worrred I hurt or killed it! Or maybe ruptured a blood vessel! Agh please help!!

There's nothing you can do but hope for the best.

Your eggs are on day what? 20-21? Why in such a hurry?
I know it's exciting, but often it's best to let the chicks do their thing.

If you haven't read the article I linked in your Other Thread, I highly recommend you read it. If you did read it, I recommend you read it a couple of more times.

Thank you. I read it. The egg pipped this morning so I think it’s okay.

How is the hatch going?
It’s going okay. It was a staggered hatch, and so far the first two batches had a few late quitters for seemingly no reason. So far 7 out of 12 older eggs have hatched and the last round are all mostly internally pipped. It just seems like all of them have had trouble popping after internally pipping and even more trouble zipping. I’ve had a couple malpositioned chicks even when I put them in lockdown right at day 18. It’s just been kinda discouraging since I’ve never had such a crazy or less successful hatch. I just really hope these last six can pull through and hatch by themselves. All 18 were alive and wiggling on day 18 and then all the sudden they started dying on me. Good sized air sacks, good temp.

Plus, the eggs I thought would be ok and hatch by themselves had died after I decided not to help them. So I’m having a hard time trying to decide whether or not to help chicks. The two I have helped have ended up pushing themselves out.
