It took some research for me to find out the beautiful bird that's hanging around my property is a Chukar Partridge. My research also told me this bird is common in western US, but NOT western Pennsylvania. That caused me concern for its survivability in our winters. Then I find there is a Pheasant/Chukar hunting preserve less than 3 miles from me. Do you think I'm correct in believing this bird somehow escaped the preserve? Also, do you believe this bird can survive by roaming around my neighborhood residential lot? It's OK with me that he does, if he can survive. Is there anything else I can do to help him survive? He looks healthy and not wounded etc. I really don't want to cage him as I only have a residential lot and I already have 3 pet domestic birds, but I sure would like it if he hung around. He's gorgeous

You could leave out treats that Chukar Partridge birds like, then it might decide to stay. And it could very well be from the preserve, since you said it is only 3 miles away. If you really want to help him survive the winters, try a little insulated dog house, putting the same treats inside of them, it should train him to go in there when it is cold
